Nymphenburg Palace / Tour > Antechamber
The ceiling painting of the room is devoted to "Cybele", mother earth. On the side walls, which are covered with red damask, are two large paintings of the electoral family, represented as figures from ancient mythology (Stefano Catani, c. 1674): Elector Ferdinand Maria as King Endymion and Electress Henriette Adelaide with the children as the goddess Diana.
The middle wall has a double portrait of the same electoral couple (Sebastiano Bombelli, 1666). The exquisite, fashionable clothing in particular reflects the splendour of the Munich court in the period when the palace was first built.
